First 4 units finished in Lac Bay building

After two months of hard work by Peter van Dam and his wonderful crew, 4 units in the main building are finished! With new beautiful marble stone floors, modern bath rooms and kitchens the Lac Bay units look fresh and attractive again. Before high season we will make sure all units in the Lac Bay building will be renovated. Some of the Lac Bay Apartments have already been renovated, but now we will also finish the other 7 apartments and studio's in the main building. Before this coming high season all units will have new kitchens, new bath rooms and new coral floors!

Travelife is a world wide independent auditor working on behalf of the International Federation of Tour Operators, which represents 13 national associations in Europe. Travelife audits all the various aspects of the hospitality industry, including hotels. TUI Netherlands initiated and paid for an audit at KonTiki, held in February 2011. The award was given after an on-site inspection by an auditor of Travel Service International Solutions, followed by a series of questions to ensure that the benchmarks and criteria established are met.
The audit consisted of an extensive accommodation checklist on the following topics:

- Environmental Management
- Energy
- Water
- Waste
- Purchasing
- Community Support
- Staff Issues
- Customer Communications  
KonTiki achieved a total of 479 points out of a maximum of 492, and this high score determined the achievement of the gold award. Participating tourism organizations can automatically reflect the award status with a logo in their brochures, on websites and in other marketing materials. We feel it is extremely satisfying to achieve such a prestigious award. The process was very detailed, and we feel very proud that KonTiki has received this certification.
